It is best to allow shrubs to completely push their new spring growth before trimming.  We suggest waiting to trim them back until the end of June or early July.  After that time, it is safe to trim anytime through the fall to maintain their shape.

When trimming evergreens, always make the sides vertical.  NEVER cut "into" the bottom of the shrub so it is more narrow at the bottom.
